The new bloom of the Woodend nursery | Sunbury and Macedonian Ranges

Woodend Nursery & Landscaping won two awards at this year’s Macedon Ranges Business Excellence Awards.

Store owner Cassius Armitage walked away from the awards show with his team after winning both the People’s Choice and Small and Thriving awards.

“I was super grateful, we worked hard for this,” said Mr. Armitage.

“The audience’s choice was the one I really wanted. “

Mr. Armitage took over the nursery three years ago.

But in the face of the tough business terms of the past 18 months, Mr. Armitage, like many of his peers, has sought to pivot the direction of his company.

After selling plant products out of the store, Mr. Armitage and his team began delivering produce to homes across the county.

Soon after, the business had evolved again, to the point where Woodend Nursery began to take on landscaping projects of all sizes.

“We love what we’re doing, getting us to transform people’s gardens, and they love to come in for a bit of therapy and have someone to talk to,” he said.

“We are in a privileged position at the heart of the community.

Now also with a fully functional online website featuring products across the country, Mr Armitage said he was optimistic the business will continue to thrive.

“I think the Small and Thriving award made sense because we’re a niche store with a small team,” he said.

“But I think over time, I expect us to grow into multiple successful small businesses.”

Mr Armitage said he appreciated to see Woodd’s business community continue to support each other.

“I am the treasurer of Woodend Traders, and what I find is that there is a great support network for other businesses,” he said.

“We are becoming a real collective. This is the concept of a modern village – we all support each other as much as possible in our businesses.
