Plan of flats for the old manger at Yeadon

A former nursery building from the 1800s could become six new apartments.

Plans have been submitted for Cliffe House, on South View Road, Yeadon.

Documents submitted as part of the planning application state: “The property comprises a two-storey Victorian villa which has operated as a children’s daycare center since 1998.

“The owner bought the property in 2016 and operated it as a nursery until 2021.

“The building is now vacant.”

The application indicates that the building is subject to a condition that limits the use of the building to a nursery and a crèche.

This adds that low occupancy rates mean that the nursery has not reached the financial break-even point.

The request also states that the building does not meet “modern requirements for more open space for play and development.”

“Overall, this proposal will prevent the building from becoming vacant, which is limited to a use that is no longer considered appropriate and/or desirable in the marketplace,” the application states.

“This proposal represents an appropriate change of use that can secure its legacy.

“Pre-application discussions with the planning officers confirmed that the principle of residential development and conversion of the property was acceptable, restoring the property to its original function for residential use.”
