The Opportunity
Due to continued growth and investment, we have recently commissioned a new state-of-the-art nursery foundation facility with plans to grow from 1 ha production to 12 ha in 2 years. Reporting directly to Site Management, we are looking for an experienced Production Manager to oversee all substrate operations spanning; capacity planning and reporting; work planning; supply; supervision and management of people; as well as monitoring compliance with site occupational health and safety and clean stock protocols. In a nutshell, your job will be to ensure the following:

  • Operational and Capacity Planning/Reporting: Preparing and executing production plans that ensure maximum utilization of manpower, equipment, and resources, as well as generating regular production reports and metrics.
  • Plant Propagation: Ensure prompt and efficient execution of all operational and plant propagation plans to meet schedule, extending to planting, irrigation, spraying, breeding and planting activities.
  • Procurement: Oversee site procurement needs, including goods and services and maintenance of inventory systems, as well as oversee site transportation and logistics activities.
  • Leadership: Provide strong supervision and leadership to teams with overall responsibility for overseeing production, irrigation, nursery hands and irrigation operations.
  • Health and Safety: Promote high standards of occupational health and ensure compliance with internal and external safety policies and procedures. Foster a strong culture of safety performance with commitment at all levels of production in all safety activities.

About you
We encourage you to apply if you meet the following criteria

  • Previous experience in overseeing or managing production in the horticultural/agricultural sector.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Higher qualifications in agribusiness, economics or similar are preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to prepare and report operating costs using basic accounting/financial systems
  • Ability to work effectively in a high pressure, fast paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills to respond effectively to people’s day-to-day issues.
