Back to 10 Cat Travel Accessories for the RV Lifestyle
The following ten items are your RV Lifestyle must-haves when taking your cat on the road. All of these cat travel accessories should make your RV trip more enjoyable for you and your cat.
1. Cat carrier
When traveling with a pet, it’s important to keep them safe on the road. Not only does this protect them, but it also protects you. A panicked cat jumping on your lap can be dangerous in more ways than one!
Keeping your cat in a carrier can also ensure that your pet is safely stored once you reach your destination. This way you can focus on setting up your campsite without having to worry about your cat being confined inside or going outside.
2. Portable Cat Tent
Another accessory that’s perfect for your RV lifestyle is a portable cat tent. A cat tent is a wire-mesh enclosure that you can set up at the campsite to contain your cat while still allowing them to enjoy the outdoors.
When traveling to new places, your cat may wander off and get lost. This tent allows him to still enjoy the outdoors but to stay close to your home in complete safety.
3. Portable Cat Litter Box
There is no way around this one. You need a cat litter box when traveling with a cat!
This portable litter box closes for easy travel in any RV. When you arrive at your next destination, you can simply unzip it to reopen it. Plus, it’s easier to carry around and get out to empty the litter box (responsibly) and clean it when needed.
4. Odor Masking Cat Litter
No matter how big your RV is, it’s still a relatively small and confined space. That means you want a great odor-controlling kitty litter to mask bathroom annoyances from your furry friend.
This is also great if your kitty litter is a low-dusty type. It can help keep your RV cleaner and smelling fresh!

5. Cat harness and leash
Another great pet accessory to take on your next road trip is a cat harness and leash. It allows you to walk your kitty outside safely by preventing him from running away.
It might take your cat a little bit to get used to it, but once it does, it might just become your favorite accessory. Some people even take their cat on short hikes!
6. Splash-proof food and water bowls
Another essential item when traveling with your cat is a spill-proof food and water bowl. When you leave your RV, you don’t want to worry about your pet spilling their food or water.
It will be a relief to know that your cat has access to food and water all day. That, and knowing that spilled water doesn’t seep into the floor of your motorhome!
7. Airtight food container
When you are out in the wild, there are tons of creatures. From insects to squirrels, there’s no shortage of creatures that would love to eat your cat’s food.
Keeping food in an airtight container keeps it fresher for your cat and hides the smell for unwanted critters to follow.
8. Automatic Laser Cat Toy
Say you want to go out for the day. Maybe you want to explore a new city or go hiking. What if your cat is bored?
A great solution to this problem is to buy an automatic laser cat toy. It lights up periodically throughout the day to keep your cat entertained for hours.
There are many types of automatic laser toys. I like the hanging one for your motorhome because it can be mounted on the ceiling. With limited space in an RV, the last thing you want is one more item taking up valuable space on your floor, table or counter.
9. Travel Indoor/Outdoor Cat House
Cats like to be in enclosed spaces. It makes them feel safe. That’s why it might be a good idea to buy a collapsible cat house.
The one I’ve included here is tiered, giving your cat a better view of the surroundings. You can even add a cat tunnel to it, which I think is pretty nifty.
10. Cat Window Perch and Scratcher
Cats love to look outside. They watch wildlife and people and like to catch the sun’s rays when they can.
If you have room, your cat will love a window perch and a small scratching post.
Your cat can lounge by the window and scratch if the need arises.
The good news is that the perch and pole don’t take up much space. It attaches directly to the window with suction cups so it can be held out of the way.

Each stop of our guide gives you at least 3 spots to camp while exploring the area! The state is especially well-suited to RV adventurers, and Michigan’s state park system is one of the best in the country. But don’t forget the beauty of boondocking.
